Electrical thermal imaging surveys

Infrared surveys of boards, switchgear, busbars and connections under load, finding hotspots caused by loose terminations, overloading and imbalance before they cause downtime or fire.

What a thermal imaging survey finds

  • Loose or corroded terminations and connections
  • Overloaded circuits, cables and protective devices
  • Phase imbalance on three-phase supplies
  • Failing components in switchgear, contactors and busbars

Because the survey is carried out with the installation live and under normal load, there is no shutdown. It complements, but does not replace, an EICR or fixed wire test.

Who uses thermography?

Data centres, manufacturers, retailers, schools, hospitals and facilities managers use annual surveys as part of planned maintenance, and many commercial property insurers ask for them. Each report includes radiometric images, temperature differentials, a severity rating and recommended action.

Pricing

Surveys are priced by the number of boards and time on site. Try the free thermal survey estimator or request a quote.

FAQ

Thermal imaging: frequently asked questions

Does a thermal imaging survey need a shutdown?

No. Surveys are carried out with the installation live and under load, which is when faults show up as hotspots.

How often should a thermal survey be done?

Annually is common for commercial and industrial sites, and some insurers specify this. Critical sites may survey more often.
