What is fixed wire testing?
Fixed wire testing is the commercial name for an EICR: inspection and testing of the wiring, distribution boards and fixed equipment in a building. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require installations to be maintained to prevent danger; a regular fixed wire test is the standard way to show this to insurers, landlords and auditors.
Typical intervals
| Premises | Commonly recommended maximum interval |
|---|---|
| Offices, shops, hotels | 5 years |
| Industrial units, workshops | 3 years |
| Schools, care homes, hospitals | 5 years (care homes and medical locations often shorter) |
| Swimming pools, petrol stations, construction sites | 1 year or less |
These are good-practice guidance figures; the inspector sets the next date in your report based on condition and use. See the commercial EICR and fixed wire testing guide.
Minimising disruption
We test circuit by circuit, out of hours where needed, and coordinate with IT and building managers to keep critical systems running. Results feed a portfolio dashboard so facilities teams can see every building's status in one place.
