A standard home installation of a 7kW smart charger in London and the South East typically costs around £900–£1,600 including the charger, with complex installations at £1,600–£2,200+. Workplace chargers are priced per socket plus groundworks and supply upgrades.
What changes the price
- Cable run: the distance from the consumer unit to the parking space, and whether it goes through walls, under floors or underground
- Consumer unit capacity: an old board may need upgrading first. See consumer unit upgrades
- Earthing: many UK homes have a PME supply that needs an earthing solution, either built into the charger or added separately
- Maximum demand: if the supply is already heavily loaded, load management or a supply upgrade may be needed. A load survey confirms it
- Charger choice: tethered or untethered, smart tariffs and solar integration
Grants
OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) grants currently focus on renters, flat owners, landlords and businesses rather than homeowners with off-street parking. Grant amounts and eligibility change regularly, so check the current schemes on GOV.UK. As an OZEV-approved installer we confirm eligibility at survey.
Certification
Every installation should come with an Electrical Installation Certificate, Building Regulations notification and, where required, notification to the distribution network operator.
